Melvin Eric Collier, 58, of 112 Brugg St., Blacksburg, passed away Monday, September 10, 2018, in Carolinas Medical Center, Charlotte.

He was born in Port Chester, NY and was a son of Elijah Collier and the late Betty Hames Collier.

Melvin was a graduate of Gaffney High School, a veteran of the U.S. Army, and a member of Trinity A.M.E. Zion Church in Blacksburg.

Surviving are: his father, Elijah Collier (Yvette) of Kannapolis, NC; two brothers, Kenneth Hames of Gaffney and Darryl Collier of Greer, SC; a sister, Heather Collier of Concord, NC; aunts, Ruby Hames of Blacksburg, "Mom" Sue Collier, Katherine Eller, and Shirley Whitaker, all of North Carolina

Funeral Services will be Wednesday, 2:00 p.m., in Trinity A.M.E. Zion Church with Rev. Wanalyn Barnett, officiating. He will be in state in the church Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. The family will receive friends in the church from 1:30 to 2:00 p.m. Interment will be Thursday, in the Veterans National Cemetery, Salisbury, NC.
