Herbert Mitchem, Jr. , 77, of Charlotte, NC, passed away Thursday, April 14th, in Presbyterian Hospital, Charlotte. He was born in Cherokee County, SC and was a son of the late Herbert Mitchem, Sr. and the late Geneva Huskey Mitchem. Herbert was a member of Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church, a 1962 graduate of Granard High School, and a retired employee of the State of NC Rest Area Maintenance. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by three children, Lisa, Gordon and Rodney Mitchem; siblings: Ossie, Lorene, and Carolyn Mitchem, and Annette Tate; a grandson, Sergio Mitchem. He leaves to cherish loving memories: a son, The Reverend Wilbert Mitchem (Tonia), of Gastonia, NC; daughters, Fernica , Shelia , and Sabrina Mitchem, Veronica Mitchem-Davis (Frank), all of Gaffney; step-daughters, Zandra and Teresa Smith, of Charlotte; a brother, Cleve Mitchem (Becky), of Gaffney; sisters, Mamie Holmes, of Gaffney, Donna Gerald (Edward), of Taylors; 9 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends. Family and Friends Visitation will be held an hour before service! Funeral Service will be held Saturday, April 23rd, 3:00 p.m., in Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church, with The Reverend C.A. Wallace officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Sinai Church Cemetery. He will be in state in the church Saturday at 1:00 p.m. The family is at the home of Mamie Holmes, 114 Buckson Street.
