George William Dukes, 96, of Mooresboro, NC, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 20, 2026, at Hospice House of Forest City.

Born on November 3, 1929, in Cherokee County, SC, George was the son of the late Romie Morris and Novella Watkins. A lifelong resident of the area, he was known as a hardworking man whose dedication to his family and career reflected his strong character and quiet strength.

George devoted 47 years of service as a truck driver with Cone Mills before retiring. Throughout his life, he was respected for his work ethic, humility, and commitment to providing for those he loved. He attended Suck Creek Baptist Church.

George leaves behind a loving family who will cherish his memory, including his children: Charles Eugene Dukes of Mooresboro, NC, Larry Dukes (Dorothy), of Gaffney, SC, Dennis Dukes of Gaffney, SC, Dennis Mickles of Gaffney, SC, Jewell Dukes, of Brooklyn, NY, Dorothy Thompson (Bernard), of Mooresboro, NC, Mae Glover (James), of Mooresboro, NC; his brother, Leroy Dukes, of Gaffney, SC; and his sisters, Lula Dukes, Mae Jeffries, and Nadine Dukes, all of Shelby, NC.

He is also survived by 25 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, extended family members, and many friends whose lives were enriched by knowing him

Funeral Service will be held on Monday, July 27, 2026, 1:00 p.m., in Suck Creek Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
